Viewings set for Polk deputy killed in crash

LAKELAND, Fla. — The public will have the opportunity to join law enforcement officers in mourning a central Florida sheriff's deputy killed when his patrol car crashed.

The Polk County Sheriff's Office says a private viewing for friends and family of Deputy Joseph Robbins, 40, will be held Monday afternoon at a Lakeland church.

A viewing for the public and law enforcement officers will follow and extend into the evening.

A memorial service and a ceremony honoring Robbins' law enforcement service will be held Tuesday.

Robbins was on duty when he was found unresponsive in his marked cruiser Friday morning. Rescuers responded after someone heard the crash and called 911. Robbins was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
