Volunteers making needed improvements to the Give Kids the World Village in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — On Monday, volunteers from around Central Florida are spending the day making repairs to the Give the Kids the World Village in Kissimmee.

AGC Charities and local contractor Wharton-Smith, as well as dozens of volunteers, are working on some improvements to the organization’s facility.

“Projects like this offer our members the opportunity to use their skills to help support amazing organizations like Give Kids the World Village,” said Thomas Brown, the chairman of AGC Charities Inc. “Taking this fence off of the Village’s to-do list leaves them with more resources and time to focus on giving families with critically ill children a week they will never forget.”

Volunteers helped build and install nearly 1,000 feet of new wooden fencing at the 89-acre Give Kids the World Village. The new fencing serves as a safety barrier around the largest of several ponds located in the village.

Give Kids the World is a nonprofit resort that provides week-long, cost-free wish vacations to critically ill children and their families from around the world who want to visit Central Florida.

Volunteers who participated in today’s charity project are all members of the Associated General Contractors of America, the national commercial construction trade association.

Wharton-Smith oversaw all the construction planning and preparation, ordered the materials for the fencing and also donated many of the tools and safety equipment brought to the village to use on the project.

“Until you come here and see it, it is hard to appreciate how amazing Give Kids the World Village really is,” said Mike Morton, the general superintendent with Wharton-Smith, who oversaw the project. “We are just thrilled to have the opportunity to help out such a wonderful place like the village.”
