95-year-old DeLand man drowns in swimming pool, police say

DELAND, Fla. — Volusia County Sheriff deputies said a DeLand man apparently drowned Friday after his wife found him face-down in the pool.

According to deputies, 95-year-old Emerson Bissinger was working in his yard and on the pool at his home on Lake Talmadge Road.

His wife Sharon told deputies she left home earlier in the day, and when she returned she found her husband unresponsive in the pool. Deputies said Bissinger’s walker and glasses were also found in the pool.

Deputies said Sharon Bissinger called 911 after finding her husband in the pool unresponsive.

The victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

According to deputies, no signs of foul play were found at the scene.
