Central Florida residents stock up on guns, ammo as tensions rise over election, civil unrest

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — As police in Washington D.C. prepare for possible civil unrest after the election, one Volusia County gun store owner said Central Florida residents are stocking up on guns and ammo.

Guns are selling fast. Some gun store owners estimate sales are up almost 200%.

Things are good if you’re selling guns and ammunition like Forrest Buckwald, owner of Buck’s Gun Rack in Daytona Beach.

Buckwald said handguns and pump action shotguns are usually the first to go.

Normally the store’s walls would be full of rifles, but because of the demand they can’t keep up with it. It’s the same with ammunition.

Buckwald said he’s seen it this busy only about three times before. Once was in 1994 when the federal assault weapons ban passed, then in 2009 when President Barack Obama took office and in 2012 after the shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

He said most of the people coming in to buy guns lately are first time gunowners.
