VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County opened a COVID-19 testing site at the Volusia County Fairgrounds on Monday.
On the first day of testing, hundreds of people received COVID-19 rapid tests. The testing was done through preregistration, and testing was able to keep up with demand.

The location is accepting up to 500 registrations per day for its rapid tests.
The fairgrounds marks the fourth county pop-up testing location offering drive-thru testing in the county. The growth in testing locations comes as COVID-19 cases surge in the community.

The county’s positive rate tripled to 22.4% between Dec. 23 and Dec. 30.

Family Health Source officials said people will not be turned away for testing at the fairgrounds if they are not preregistered. If there isn’t room to test them at the site, they’ll be given a take-home test kit instead.
The county expects to keep the location open as long as the demand remains.
