Thousands flock to Volusia County beaches for July 4 weekend

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Volusia County’s coast welcomed thousands this July 4 weekend.

Even the dark clouds that rolled in overhead could not keep people away.

“I was out here about 6:30 this morning setting up camp, but you always got people coming in front of you, but they’re together. The tide is going to get them before it gets me,” tourist Brad Towles said.

Lifeguards were also busy this weekend doing more than 50 water rescues in Volusia County and even helping an 8-year-old who was injured by a shark bite.
