Troopers investigate deadly crash after driver leaves roadway, crashes into tree

VIOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a deadly crash involving a single car in Volusia County.

The crash happened at around 10:30 p.m. Friday on Pioneer Trail near Bridget Street.

Troopers said a Porsche 911 was heading eastbound on Pioneer trail when the driver lost control of the car and left the road.

After leaving the roadway, the Porsche smashed through a mailbox and hit a fire hydrant, causing the Porsche to become airborne. It crashed through a wooden fence, finally striking a utility pole and tree.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger received minor injuries from the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
