Truck carrying watermelons overturns, shutting down I-95 for hours

ORMOND BEACH, Fla. — Interstate 95 is back open after a semi truck carrying watermelons flipped and blocked the road.

The crash happened Friday night on northbound I-95 near the Old Dixie Highway exit in Ormond Beach around 11:15 p.m.

Troopers said the driver of a Jeep SUV traveling northbound lost control, ran off the road, hit a guardrail and traveled back onto the interstate.

When the Jeep reentered the highway, it collided with a semi truck carrying watermelons. The semi truck overturned, blocking all northbound lanes of I-95.

I-95 was shut down for hours while the truck and watermelons were cleared from the roadway.

Both drivers remained at the scene and neither driver sustained injuries in the crash.
