Officials: Mom's boyfriend shoved 8-year-old's head through wall

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A Volusia County man is in jail, accused of child abuse. Police said he shoved an child's head through a wall.

Police were called to an Edgewater apartment after the mother who lives there called police and said her boyfriend, Robert Roby, was being abusive.

Police said Roby beat the woman and that he shoved her 8-year-old son's head through a wall. Police said they found the little boy's hair stuck to the plaster.

Neighbors said they find the accusations especially shocking because they rarely heard a anything out of Roby.

"Very quiet, very quiet. It must be all behind closed doors," said one neighbor.

This isn't the first time Roby has been in trouble of this type. Last year he was arrested for burglary, battery and domestic violence with another woman, all in Orange County.

Police said the boy had swelling to his head, but nothing life threatening.

The Florida Department of Children and Families was called in to investigate. The child is back with his mother.

A judge ordered Roby not come in contact with the boy or his mother. He remains in jail on a $10,000 bond.
