Watch: Seminole County Sheriff's Office, FWC finds lost hikers

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Two hikers who were lost in the woods in Seminole County were safely found Friday.

Members of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, Alert 2, were notified of the missing hikers near the Wekiva River. After a brief search, the two hikers waved and flagged down the officers.

Members of the sheriff’s office told FWC officers the coordinates of the missing hikers and they were escorted out of the woods.

Deputies with the sheriff’s office urge people before they go hiking, to let loved ones know where they’re going, make sure their phone is charged and bring a whistle to help flag down people.

Friday evening members of the Seminole County Sheriff’s Aviation Unit, Alert 2, helped locate two lost hikers near the Wekiva River. After making visual contact with the subjects, Alert 2 relayed their coordinates to FWC officers who responded on the ground and escorted them out of the woods. The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office urges you to keep the following safety tips in mind before going hiking: -Let loved ones know where you’re going -Make sure your phone is charged -Bring a whistle which can aid in summoning help if your phone does not work.
