Boil water alert lifted in Holly Hill

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — Holly Hill Public Works Department lifted the precautionary boil water alert Sunday afternoon.

The alert was issued Thursday because of a water main break caused by a car crash.

Police said the driver of an SUV went off the road and hit a hydrant on Walker Street in Holly Hill. Police said she leaned down to pick up something inside her vehicle before she ran off the road.

According to utility workers, water from the broken hydrant washed out the ground and the SUV fell into the hole, damaging the water main.

The water main break knocked out service to about 100 customers.

Holly Hill water techicians have completed testing the water and determined the water is safe to drink.
