‘We need to do something’: Rally scheduled for Friday night during Ukrainian festival in Apopka

APOPKA, Fla. — Central Floridians with connections to Ukraine are heartbroken by the images coming out of the country.

A rally is scheduled to be held on Friday night during a Ukrainian festival that was already scheduled for this weekend.

The festival was originally planned as a fun celebration but now the gathering has taken on a whole new meeting.

The rally will take place at the Apopka Amphitheater from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.

At Lake Eola on Thursday night, people sang in support of the Ukrainian people as Russian bombs exploded in the eastern European country.

Though they were more than 6,000 miles away, they are sending their support to the innocent under attack.

“We need to do something,” a woman told Channel 9. “I want to do something so this is why I’m here.”

Also, some local religious leaders came together to pray for the people of Ukraine.

A small prayer service was held at Saint Mary Protectress Ukrainian Catholic Church in Apopka.

Parishioners told Channel 9 they have family and friends in Ukraine.

They said prayers for millions of men and women seeking shelter.
