Woman charged with DUI after crash that killed toddler on family bicycle ride, police say

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. — A woman has been charged with DUI manslaughter after a crash that killed a toddler on a family bicycle ride, according to the Altamonte Springs Police Department.

Police said Shona Wallace, 48, was arrested and charged in connection with a crash June 2 on State Road 414.

The Zisa family was out on their daily bike ride to help 17-month-old Adalyn fall asleep last month when deputies say a car jumped the curb and struck the trio, killing the toddler and seriously injuring her parents.

Altamonte Springs police said Wallace was on drugs at the time.

Officers were waiting on a toxicology report before making the arrest.

Police said Wallace never should have been on the road. They say tests show she had THC, cocaine, fentanyl and Valium in her system.

In addition to DUI manslaughter, Wallace was also charged with two counts of DUI with serious bodily injury, as well as drug charges.

Investigators say Wallace drove onto the sidewalk and hit the family.

"They were happy to receive the news. But obviously, they're still in a place of unknown at this time,” said Evelyn Estevez, with the Altamonte Springs Police Department. “Mom is still recovering from her injuries. We hope that it was at least a little bit of news that they can receive to kind of get a little closure in the incident."

The family started a GoFundMe page to help with the mounting medical expenses, as Dane Zisa is the sole breadwinner of the household. Click here to visit their page.

Wallace saw a judge in Volusia County on Saturday where she was granted a bond of $46,000.
