Police ID woman found shot to death in Sanford insurance office

SANFORD, Fla. — Authorities have identified a woman who was found shot to death inside an insurance office in Sanford on Monday.

Investigators said a woman walked into McGee Insurance shortly after noon and found the owner shot to death at her desk.

The victim has been identified as 53-year-old Cynthia McGee and authorities believe she had been shot a short time before the woman walked into the office.

"She was sitting there, bleeding from her head," said McGee's friend, Tiffanye Williams.

"Boy, it's sad. She's a well-known lady and she's a good lady, a very good lady," said another friend.

Dozens of other customers who got word rushed to the office while others were arriving for appointments after the fact.

Channel 9 learned McGee was well-known in the community and active in her church, according to friends.

"She always gave me good advice," said Williams. "She was like a role model. A really good woman, she was spiritual, a preacher of the gospel. She didn't deserve it."

Authorities said they do not believe the shooting was a robbery attempt. They're following up on leads and continuing to gather evidence.
