• Woman dies in South Apopka house fire

SOUTH APOPKA, Fla. - The state fire marshal is trying to figure out what caused a house fire that that killed a woman and her dog.

Orange County Fire Rescue crews said a neighbor called 911 Friday night, when they saw smoke pouring from the home on 16 E. 15th Street in South Apopka.

It took more than a dozen firefighters to put out the blaze.

The unidentified woman and her dog were pulled from the home through the front window.

“We’ve got the state fire marshal here investigating right now, so until they go through and investigate and go through everything, we try not to disturb,” said Laura Avery.

The woman was taken to Florida Hospital, where she died Saturday.

    Her dog did not survive.

Officials said the fire does not appear to be suspicious.
