• Woman injured when boat engine catches fire in Astor


    VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. - A woman was injured when a boat’s engine exploded and caught fire in Volusia County Sunday.

    Florida Fish and Wildlife officers said the boat owner and his wife were on the boat and getting ready to leave on the St. Johns River in Astor when a flash fire started from the engine compartment.

    The man’s wife, who has not been identified, suffered severe burns to her legs and minor burns to her arms.

    Officials said the couple smelled gas prior to the explosion.

    Her husband had minor injuries.

    FWC and Volusia County deputies are investigating the incident.
