• Woman punched in face during DeLand carjacking

DeLAND, Fla. - Police are investigating after a woman was carjacked at a DeLand apartment complex Monday night.

The single mother said she spotted a friend on the street and gave her a ride home to the Laurel Villa apartments. As she sat in her car with the windows down, talking on her phone, a man rushed in and punched her through the open window, she said

“I don't know if they tried to slap me or punch me,” the victim told WFTV. “When I turned, I got hit. You get woozy, dizzy, light-headed.”

The victim said she passed out and then woke up a few minutes later to find her car, purse and cellphone stolen.

“They have my keys, they have my ID. They have everything on me, you know,” she said.
Police found the vehicle and dusted it for fingerprints in hopes of identifying a suspect.

The victim said she didn't get a good look at the man.

“I just thank God that I got my car back, my children weren't with me, and I'm safe,” the victim said. “Some people don't come out as lucky as that."

Anyone with information is asked to contact police.
