Woman struck by train in Marion Co. loses arm

BELLEVIEW, Fla. — A young woman lost her right arm after being struck by a train in north Florida, authorities said.

The Marion County Sheriff's Office reports that woman was apparently drunk and upset about a recent breakup when she was lying next to a train track in Belleview early Wednesday morning.

A conductor told deputies that they began blowing the train's horn when they saw the woman, but they couldn't stop the 6,000-foot CSX freight train before hitting her.

Once the train finally did stop, two conductors found the woman, pulled her from under the train and used a belt to make a tourniquet for her arm.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.

Reports said that friends of the woman later told the deputy about her recent breakup.
