Workers complain of garbage piling up at Orlando Premium Outlets

ORLANDO, Fla. — Garbage is piling up in dumpsters at the Orlando Premium Outlets, and both shoppers and workers said they want the smelly problem taken care of.

"This is what greets them as they are parking," said a store employee, who didn't want to be identified.

Some workers told Channel 9 it's been a week since the outlets' dumpsters were emptied.

"This is our trash that we've had to maintain in the store," said the employee. "It's not fair to me to send employees home with garbage."

Some merchants said they have decided to take their trash home with them to avoid fines from the outlets.

"We are fined if we have product left out in the road," the employee said.

Waste Management said it picks up the trash from the outlets on Saturday, but one official with the mall said there was a garbage collection issue.

Management at Orlando Premium Outlets told Channel 9 they don't plan to fine any merchants:

“While Orlando Premium Outlets – International Drive has policies in place to ensure a clean shopping environment, if there are outside circumstances impacting regular trash collection and removal we have not, and would not, issue fines to any of our merchants.  Our team is committed to a clean, safe and enjoyable shopping experience for our guests.”
