World War II nursing veteran in hospice care honored with special pinning ceremony

PALM BAY, Fla. — A former World War II Nursing Cadet was honored with a special pinning ceremony Thursday.

94-year-old Jean Ostrow is currently a patient at Hospice of Health First in Palm Bay, but on February 11, 1945, she earned admission to the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps.

Ostrow received two different pins, a special branch certificate, and a copy of her original Nurse Corps membership card during the ceremony Thursday.

Ostrow’s son Richard says his mother was instrumental in caring for premature babies and wounded soldiers during World War II.

“My brothers and sisters and stuff, we’re just putting together some memories that we can carry forward...and this will help.”

Ostrow’s husband also served in World War II.
