Trump's European visit, Wimbledon, Emmy nominations: 5 things you need to know Thursday

Britons to protest Trump's UK visit

Numerous demonstrations protesting President Donald Trump's United Kingdom visit are anticipated to begin Thursday in London. And in anticipation of possible violence, the U.S. Embassy in Britain is encouraging Americans in the capital to keep a low profile. Trump's visit comes on the heels of the NATO summit in Brussels on Wednesday and Thursday, which served as the start to his 7-day trip across Europe. On Friday, Trump will meet with British Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II. The U.S. president will largely avoid the London area, where a giant 'baby Trump' blimp will be flown Friday to protest his arrival. The trip will come to an end on July 16 following a summit between Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

FBI agent who wrote anti-Trump texts to testify before lawmakers

FBI agent Peter Strzok, whose disparaging text messages about President Donald Trump prompted his removal from the ongoing inquiry into Russia's interference in the 2016 election, will testify Thursday at a joint meeting of House committees. Some Republican lawmakers have joined Trump in citing Strzok's anti-Trump text exchanges with former FBI lawyer Lisa Page as alleged evidence that the Russia investigation — led by Justice Department special counsel Robert Mueller — is biased against the president. On Wednesday, House Republicans threatened Page with contempt proceedings after she failed to appear for a deposition despite a subpoena.

Serena Williams to head into Wimbledon women's semis

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Serena Williams will square off against 13th-seeded Julia Goerges of Germany in the women's singles semifinal round Thursday. Williams, now ranked No. 51, defeated Camila Giorgi in the quarterfinal round.  The other women's semifinal features 11th-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany against 12th-seeded Jelena Ostapenko. Should Williams make it to the final round and secure her eight Wimbledon trophy, she'll land at No. 14 and add one more win to her 23 overall Grand Slam singles titles.

Looking for a new home but prices are too high? Options may arrive

The housing market may be starting to benefit from the one thing that can loosen a long-running squeeze that has crimped sales and driven up prices: More homes. The nation's housing inventory increased 12.2 percent in the second quarter, the biggest gain since early 2015, according to released data by real estate research firm Trulia on Thursday. "It could be the start of a shift in inventory," says Trulia data analyst Alexandra Lee, though she added it's too early to tell for sure. Lee attributed the increase to an acceleration in new home construction as well as the willingness of more existing homeowners to put their houses on the market.
