Bills CB Dane Jackson reportedly released from hospital after head-to-head collision with teammate on MNF

Buffalo Bills cornerback Dane Jackson left Monday's game against the Tennessee Titans in an ambulance after a helmet-to-helmet collision with teammate Tremaine Edmunds. The Bills later announced during their 41-7 win that he was transported to a hospital and had movement in his extremities.

Jackson was later released from the hospital Tuesday morning and reportedly walked out of Erie County Medical Center under his own power, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Bills head coach Sean McDermott will speak more on Jackson's injury later this afternoon.

The injury occurred in the final minute of the game's first half. Jackson was covering Titans receiver Treylon Burks and tackled him low after a completed pass. As they fell to the ground, Edmunds dove in appearing to anticipate hitting Burks before he went to the turf. Instead, Burks and Jackson were already on the ground, and Edmunds made head-first contact with Jackson with the crown of his helmet, sending Jackson's head and neck whipping violently backward.

An ambulance immediately drove onto the field to tend to Jackson. Jackson's teammates surrounded him as he received medical attention before the ambulance carried Jackson away.

The Bills announced after halftime that Jackson "has full movement" in his extremities and was transported to a local hospital to undergo a CT scan and X-rays to test for a neck injury.

Bills head coach Sean McDermott didn't have any further updates after the game.

"Hopefully we'll get some word here soon," McDermott said, per the Buffalo News. "Dane has full movement in his extremities, which is good. And I mean you go from the real part of it here. You go from being a coach to just being a human when I'm out there watching him getting loaded into the ambulance. That's a real moment.

"Just praying for him, and it's an unfortunate situation But we're praying for him, and hopefully we get some more here soon."

Edmunds, meanwhile, explained the hit from his perspective.

"Yeah, definitely a tough play," Edmunds said. "Just kind of saw the receiver still up, just trying to finish the play.

"Obviously, a situation that I didn't do intentionally. I would never try to do something like that to my teammate. But like I said, man, the receiver was still up. I was just trying to finish him to the ground and, unfortunately, I ended up hitting Dane."

Jackson, 25, is a third-year pro who played college football at Pittsburgh. The Bills selected him in the seventh round of the 2020 draft. He was a part-time starter last season before earning a starting job for 2022.
