Pacers C Myles Turner reportedly out at least a week after landing on ball boy's foot before season opener

Myles Turner just can't catch a break.

The often-injured Indiana Pacers center missed his team's season opener on Wednesday after sustaining an ankle injury during his pregame warm-ups. According to Yahoo Sports' Jake Fischer, the injury occurred when Turner landed on a Pacers ball boy's foot.

With Turner sidelined, the Pacers lost to the Washington Wizards 114-107. A day later, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported Turner is expected to miss at least a week due to the injury.

That's definitely not the note the Pacers wanted to begin their season on, especially after Turner missed the almost half of last season with a stress reaction in his right foot. It's also not great news for Turner, who is an unrestricted after this season, the final year in a four-year, $72 million extension.

When on the court, Turner is the Pacers' defensive anchor, leading the NBA in block percentage in two of the last four years. His 8.3 block percentage would have led the NBA last year too had he played enough games. Turner averaged 12.9 points, 7.1 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game in 42 games last year.

However, Turner also hasn't played more than 50 games in a season since 2019-20 and has cleared 70 games only twice in his career. He's not off to a great start in breaking that streak.
