Pedestrian hit, killed by Daytona Beach city vehicle

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Officials in Volusia County are investigating after a woman was hit and killed by a Daytona Beach city vehicle Saturday evening.

The crash happened at the intersection of Madison Avenue and Ridgewood Avenue around 5:30 p.m.

According to officials, the victim was trying to cross Ridgewood Avenue on her bicycle when she was struck by a Daytona Beach Leisure Services van driven by 47-year-old Percy Lentz.

The victim's identity had not been released Saturday night, but Daytona Beach police say she appeared to be in her late teens or early twenties.

Police did not say whether Lentz would be ticketed, but witnesses at the scene said he had the green light at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
