House to vote on $2 trillion stimulus package to provide assistance during coronavirus outbreak

WASHINGTON D.C. — The U.S. House is debating the $2 trillion stimulus package that was passed by the Senate earlier this week, and is expected to pass it later in the day.

Since many members of the House are out of D.C. and in quarantine, House leadership had planned to pass the Senate bill using unanimous consent. However, some members including Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Kentucky) have indicated they will force a roll call vote on the bill; something that will require a quorum to be present.

As a result, many members have quickly returned to D.C. to ensure there are enough representatives present to establish a quorum.

Calling the price tag on the bill “a tough pill to swallow," Rep. Michael Waltz (R-Volusia) spoke on the floor saying resources are needed now, saying that U.S. hospitals are the Omaha Beach of this crisis closing by saying, “we have a duty to support this bill.”

“This is an unprecedented crisis," said Rep. Darren Soto (D-Orange). “It’s time to pass this bipartisan bill and send a message to central Florida and to the rest of the country that help is on its way.”
