Why undecided voters could play a critical role in this year’s election

The election season is coming down to the wire. And yet, recent polls show some Floridians still haven’t made up their minds about who they want to be president.

Political experts say those people could decide this very close election if they make it to the polls.

And this year, undecided voters could again play a critical role.

Terry Warren, an Orlando resident, said he’s a lifelong Republican who voted for Trump in 2016, but said he might vote for former Vice President Joe Biden this time.

“The country is so separated,” Warren said. “You’ve got too much dissension. We need to come together instead of grow apart.”

About 3% to 5% of voters are still undecided, which political experts say could be 300,000 to 500,000 voters.

As of Thursday, polling data compiled by Real Clear Politics has Biden ahead by 1.4%.

According to exit polls, about 11% of undecided voters in 2016 finally made up their minds this last week.

More than 50% of those votes went to President Donald Trump, pushing him to win Florida by about 130,000 votes.
