Residents forced to evacuate Miami Beach condo over structural damage concerns

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — People who live at a Miami Beach condo have been forced to evacuate after the city declared the building unsafe.

The building is called Port Royale and the city said a report from a structural engineer found excessive damage in a concrete beam on the garage level.

One resident said he started noticing issues years ago.

“Cracks in the column. Cracks in the base, in the garage, in two storage garages, cracks in the beams. Everywhere,” said apartment owner Marsh Markaj.

A letter from inspectors said the damaged column may be supporting the entire building.
