Detectives told WFTV the men were very familiar with the Lake Mary store. They say they can tell by the surveillance video that the men had a plan and executed their crime methodically.
Just after 2:30 Tuesday morning, the 24-hour Walgreens pharmacy was targeted by two robbers who they believe knew exactly what they were doing, either through experience or planning.
"It wasn't random. They didn't just pick out this Walgreens as they were driving by. They did their homework in the days leading up to it, or they were just familiar with Walgreens because maybe prior instances," said Lieutenant James Clark of the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.
Officers point to the quick work seen in the surveillance video as the two men entered and moved two employees to the store's office where they were forced at gunpoint to access cash, before both employees were forced into a nearby cooler as the men came and went in a matter of minutes.
"We were very fortunate in this instance that they didn't hurt anybody, but quite simply they put a weapon to someone's head and we absolutely can't have someone on the street that's capable of doing that," Clark said.
Because of the men's apparent familiarity with the store, and the fact that they disguised their identity all the way down to gloves to possibly avoid fingerprints, officers believe the two may have struck before or plan to do it again.
Investigators described both suspects as black males. They say one of the suspects was wearing jeans and the other was wearing jean shorts, and both wore black shirts and covered their heads with shirts during the robbery.
Detectives don't have a vehicle description to work with and at this point, all they can do is try to find matching cases or hope for a tip while they warn other Walgreens in the area of the potential threat.
