Rockledge Regional partners with Victory Casino Cruises to give COVID vaccines to Port employees

PORT CANAVERAL, Fla. — Port Canaveral employees and their families received their first doses of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine Monday.

The vaccines were administered through a partnership with Rockledge Regional Medical Center and Victory Casino Cruises.

“I think it’s a wonderful opportunity. I’m very grateful for this,” Victory employee Brandi Weisner says. “We were having a lot of trouble trying to set up appointments, so you can’t beat it.”

Monday’s vaccination event is just one of the steps Victory Casino Cruises has taken since partially reopening last June during the pandemic. Capacity for their five to six hour cruises is still limited to 45 percent.

“We do not sail on Mondays and Tuesdays since we re-opened last June for COVID reasons,” CEO Lester Bullock says. “We sanitize the vessel, and quite frankly, we want to make sure it’s clean and safe for everybody to sail.”

Bullock says they recently surpassed 100,000 passengers carried since reopening and no COVID outbreaks have been traced back to their ship.

Rockledge Regional Medical Center officials say their goal is to vaccinate as many people in the community as possible.

They say they’re already working on partnerships with other local businesses.
