• Southwest Fla. boy dies after lightning strike


    FORT MYERS, Fla. - An 11-year-old southwest Florida boy has died after being struck by lightning at football practice.

    Pastor Richard Powell told the News-Press (http://tinyurl.com/9eprorn ) on Sunday that Jesse Watlington had died.

    McGregor Baptist Church said on its Facebook page that the family made the decision to remove Jesse from life support based on the most recent neurological tests. The church if affiliated with Jesse's school.

    The boy was struck by lightning during practice Wednesday at Southwest Florida Christian Academy

    Extracurricular activities at the school have been canceled through the weekend. School officials want to make sure students are psychologically prepared when they return to the field where Watlington was struck.
