ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are trying to find the people who ran off and left two toddlers at a Walmart when they were caught stealing from the store Tuesday evening. Police say two women abandoned a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old at the Walmart on South Kirkman Road after they were caught shoplifting.
"That just makes my skin crawl. There are so many people who want children and these people just leave them in the store like that," shopper Joan Costa told WFTV.
Investigators say the women were trying to get away with $200 worth of merchandise from the Walmart, but the store's Loss Prevention Department caught them.
The women apparently had four children with them and ran off with two babies, but left the two toddlers behind.
According to police, the two children are related to the suspects, but the suspects are not the kids' mother. Police have already identified one suspect, but they haven't released her name.
"I think she should be put in jail for that," one shopper told WFTV.
The children have been turned over to the Department of Children and Families. Officers have not yet made any arrests.
