69-year-old carjacked, beaten on the way to Bible study

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Police are looking for the three men who were caught on camera, attacking a man outside a Whitehaven gas station and stealing his car.

Help Identifying Carjacking Suspects 1682 E. Shelby Drive Report #1804005451ME MEMPHIS, TN – On Wednesday, April 11th at 5:44p.m. the victim was at the Valero Gas Station at 1682 E. Shelby Drive when he was attacked and carjacked by three suspects. One of the suspects pointed a gun at the victim. All three suspects beat the 69-year-old victim after he exited the vehicle. The suspects drove away in the victim’s silver 2010 Dodge Avenger TN tag 236ZTQ. Suspect #1 is described as a male black wearing a dark hoodie and dark pants carrying a black backpack and armed with a black handgun. Suspect #2 is described as a male black with a low haircut with a bandana tied around his head wearing a University of Memphis shirt and camouflage pants. Suspect #3 is described as a male black wearing a white t-shirt and dark colored shorts. Anyone with information about this incident should call Crime Stoppers at 528-CASH. Odell Wright, 69, said he was on his way to Bible study when he stopped to get gas at a Valero in the 1600 block of Shelby Drive.

“By the time I got through pumping my gas, as soon as I put the top on, they were on me,” Wright said.

Police said the attack happened just before 6 p.m. Wednesday. Wright's 2010 Dodge Avenger was also taken.

“Didn’t seem like it was real. Didn’t seem like it was happening to me,” he explained.

Wright said one of the suspects put a gun to his stomach before he wrestled it away. Shortly after, he was attacked.
