PITTSBURGH — Mr. Rogers and kindness go hand in hand, and it's no wonder that World Cardigan Day and World Kindness Day are being celebrated on the same day.
To help mark the occasion, babies at Allegheny Health Networks were dressed in Mr. Rogers' favorite outerwear, a cardigan sweater.
Rogers is known for his message of kindness that he shared with children not only in the Pittsburgh area but across the country, as documented in the upcoming film "A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood."
The film will be released on Nov. 22, with some theaters showing it on Nov. 21, and stars Tom Hanks.
To honor Mr. Rogers' memory, WQED, the PBS station that produced "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood," asked fans to wear cardigans, renaming World Kindness Day as Cardigan Day.
Wednesday is World Kindness Day, and WQED is encouraging YOU to express your kindness by wearing a cardigan sweater in the spirit of Fred Rogers. Happy #CardiganDay! ❤️ https://t.co/j3i8DzClit

Joanne Rogers, the wife of Mr. Rogers, visited newborns at Magee-Women's Hospital in Pittsburgh Wednesday and was surprised with the children dressed in red cardigans, similar to what her husband wore.
A HUGE thanks to @UPMC for not only a long legacy of kindness, but the BIG welcome to Mrs. Joanne Rogers on #CardiganDay... complete with newborns donning specially-knitted sweaters by talented nurse, Caitlin Peachin. Definitely A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD! pic.twitter.com/KjadoTrBiY
