EAST LANSING, Mich. — On many college campuses, parking is a challenge.

With so many students and cars and limited space, taking advantage of an empty spot where you need it sometimes costs you.

For Michigan State University student Kaila Davidson, it cost her 10 parking tickets and accompanying fines her senior year.

She knowingly parked in locations with meters, hoping to luck out, but she never did, racking up tickets instead.

But she used the tickets to make an "S," for Michigan State, on her green graduation cap.

"I thought it would be funny," Davidson told the Lansing State Journal. "I was going to throw them away, but I figured, why not do something fun with them?"

Davidson decided to have more fun with her cap by tweeting a picture of it to the Michigan State University Police Department Monday:

The department tweeted back well wishes:

"She sent us the tweet directly, and we saw there was humor in it, so we responded in kind," MSU police Capt. Doug Monette told the Lansing State Journal. "We wish her the best of luck."

Davidson said she was surprised at the department's reply to her tweet, which has been picked up by Mashable.

And although it may seem like Davidson got off the hook, she paid off her tickets -- which were $25 each -- before using them to decorate her cap.

Davidson graduates Saturday.
