SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Nearly 60 former city employees stole more 10,000 gallons of gas over the course of years, costing Sacramento more than $30,000, city auditors said.
The onetime employees were retired, resigned or fired when they had accessed the pumps. Eighteen of them had worked in the Police Department, KOVR reported.
Employees use a badge or a code to access fuel at the seven different pump locations throughout the city.
Fleet management was told when employees stopped working with the city, but the department didn't remove employee access, KOVR reported. The department said it will now remove access to the pumps once an employee no longer works for the city.
