MILWAUKEE — A man who won two jackpots at a Milwaukee casino last week saw his luck change dramatically as he was robbed several days later.
"I was excited as heck," Czarnecki told the television station.
Czarnecki bought a safe and a used car with his winnings, adding that he only told a few people about his good fortune. Saturday night, Czarnecki and his roommate, Hunter Marks, were at home when they heard a knock at the back door, WTMJ reported.
"The door kind of pushed opened a little bit while I was reaching for the handle," Marks told the television station. "I looked to see a guy standing there with a mask on and a pistol pointing toward me. He nearly hit me in the mouth with it."
According to police, the thieves hit Marks in the head with the gun, then restrained him and his 77-year-old mother with zip ties, WTMJ reported. The intruders did the same to Czarnecki and his girlfriend -- but first, they forced him to open his safe.
According to Czarnecki, the thieves herded the victims into a bedroom and pushed a stove in front of a door, the television station reported. Czarnecki said he and Marks were able to kick the door down, but the robbers had already left with the cash.
It was a tough lesson, Czarnecki said, adding that if he wins cash again at the casino, he won't bring the cash home.
"The bank is probably the better way," Czarnecki told WTMJ.
