According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration safety recall report, a software error in the computer that controls engine operation could lead to loss of engine power or an engine stall. Such engine issues would lead to an increased risk of a crash, as the engine is not able to be restarted.

There have been no reported crashes or injuries due to the software issue.

Mazda dealers will reprogram the software for free. Owners should expect to be notified of the recall by Aug. 26.
