Carol Ballweg, 46, of Troy, was charged with four counts of stealing a controlled substance and two counts of abuse of a vulnerable person, the television station reported.

In a news release, medical workers caring for Ballweg's 20-year-old daughter called police Monday because they were worried the younger woman was not receiving her doses of oxycodone and fentanyl, Troy police said.

Police say Ballweg confessed to being addicted to opioids and using the medicine herself. Bond is set at $100,000. No attorney is listed for Ballweg in online court records.

If Ballweg is released from custody, she's barred from having contact with her daughter, police said in a news release.

Medical staff had reportedly made numerous calls to a hotline regarding the daughter's care. Specifically, staff became concerned after Ballweg repeatedly requested the medications be filled ahead of schedule.

A urine test on the dying patient conducted Sept. 7 revealed there were “no signs of her prescribed medication in her system,” police said.
