Police investigate after teen puts dog in clothes dryer, streams on Instagram Live

Police are investigating after a teen allegedly livestreamed herself as she put a small dog in a clothes dryer and turned it on.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Dallas police said on Monday that animal cruelty detectives learned the Instagram live occurred in Lewisville, Texas. The case has since been turned over to the Lewisville Police Department.

WFAA reported that the video showed a teenage girl picking up a little white dog with gray spots and laughing as she puts it in a clothes dryer. She turns on the machine and opens the door seconds later, and the dog tumbles out.

The dog appeared to be unharmed, but it is seen cowering under a coffee table.

The original account with the video has disappeared, but the video continues to be shared on Twitter. According to one user, the teen has put the dog in the dryer before in another live video.

Authorities said they are not publicly identifying the teen because she is a minor, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. The incident is being investigated as cruelty to non-livestock animals, the department said in a Facebook post.

Police said the dog was examined by a veterinarian and "upon completion of the exam, the vet released the dog to the rightful owner. Further investigation into the dog’s physical condition continues. We are awaiting the veterinarian’s report before releasing any information on the dog’s condition."
