Update 10:11 p.m. EDT Sept. 8: Two juveniles were wounded in the shooting at Uvalde Memorial Park at about 5:30 p.m. CDT, according to a news release from the Uvalde Police Department. The department added that four suspects are in custody.
The two victims are in stable condition, Uvalde police Chief Daniel Rodriguez told KENS-TV.
Original report: According to a Facebook post by the Uvalde Police Department, officers were called to Uvalde Memorial Park at about 5:30 p.m. CDT.
Thursday’s incident occurred after a mass shooting at Robb Elementary School on May 24 left 21 people dead, including 19 elementary students and two teachers, KSAT-TV reported.
Uvalde Police Chief Daniel Rodriguez said police are looking for two suspects, who he did not identify, according to KENS-TV. Police did not reveal the extent of the victims’ injuries. The victims were taken to a San Antonio hospital via helicopter, according to KSAT.
Authorities told residents that the shooting was “not a dangerous situation for the general public.”
The shooting occurred two days after students returned to class for the new school year, ABC News reported.
The Robb Elementary School campus was closed by the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in June, KXAN-TV reported. Students who would have attended classes there are being taught at other district facilities, according to the television station.
Uvalde Memorial Park is located about one mile from Robb Elementary School, KTVT reported.

The shooting comes a little more than two weeks after Pete Arredondo, the school police chief in Uvalde, Texas, lost his job over the slow response at Robb Elementary School.
Arredondo was one of the first officers to respond to reports of the shooting, although he failed to take the lead during the law enforcement response, according to a report issued last month by a Texas House committee. The panel was tasked with investigating the deadliest school shooting in the state’s history. The committee noted in its report that there were no “villains” found during its investigation, attributing issues with the response instead to “systemic failures and egregiously poor decision making.”
Arredondo, who had won a seat on the Uvalde City Council, was sworn in during a private ceremony the week after the deadly shooting, KSAT reported. He skipped the first two city council meetings.
Arredondo resigned his council seat in early July.
