Apple iOS 16: Apple launching newest operating system on Monday

iPhone and Apple Watch owners will see a new operating system on Monday afternoon that will add new features to Apple devices.

Here are some things to know about the new system:

When will it be released?

While Apple has not revealed an exact time, the download is expected to be available at 1 p.m. ET.

What are the new features of iOS 16? Included in the new features are:

· Edit or delete Messages after they are sent: Users can edit or unsend a message in the Messages app up to 15 minutes after it’s been sent if both the sender and recipient use the Messages app and run iOS 16.

· Customizable lock screens. Users will be able to use different styles and fonts for lock screens. The widgets resemble ones you can add to the face of an Apple Watch.

· Focus mode upgrades. It will be easier for iPhone users to create a Focus and transition between multiple Focus modes.

· Passkeys for Safari. Passkeys offers a new way to sign in to Safari by using your iPhone to log in with Touch ID or Face ID.

Which phones will support iOS 16?

If you own an iPhone 8 or later, then your phone will support iOS 16. If you own a second generation or later iPhone SE model, those phones will also support the new software update.

What about WatchOS 9?

A new update for the Apple Watch Series 4 or later will also be available on Monday.

The WatchOS 9 update includes a Medications app, ways to view workouts, ways to better track how you sleep, and new faces for the Apple Watch.

How to update iPhone with iOS 16?

If you are not sure if your phone can get the update, go to Settings, then General, then Software Update. If your phone can get the update, you can see it there.

After it launches, plug in your device or make sure you have at least 50% battery life.

Tap “Install Now.” The download could take a while.
