Thirty-five years ago, Bruce Springsteen sang, “I’m On Fire.” On Tuesday in New Jersey, Springsteen’s son began fighting fires.
Sam Springsteen, 26, son of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, was sworn in as a member of the Jersey City Fire Department along with 14 others, WCBS reported.
The Boss was there for his son’s graduation, along with Sam Springsteen’s mother, Patti Scialfa, WABC reported. However, the singer preferred to remain in the background.
"This is my son’s day, so I’m staying out of it,” Bruce Springsteen told WABC. “We’re very proud. We’re very proud. ... It was a long road. He was very dedicated for quite a few years, and we’re just excited for him today.”
Like his father, Sam Springsteen chose to be low-key about his graduation and his famous parents.
“I’m going to take a pass on this one,” he told reporters. “Sorry, folks. I don’t have too much to say.”
