Cat missing 3 years reunited with owner after walking into hospital

BERLIN, N.H. — A cat missing three years wandered into a New Hampshire hospital Wednesday morning, leading to a reunion with her owner.

An extremely thin but friendly feline walked into the emergency room entrance doors at Androscoggin Valley Hospital in an attempt to escape freezing temperatures outside, Berlin police said on social media.

It took about three hours, but the cat was captured, and responding officer Lt. Hollie Dube brought the cat back to the station with her. She planned on taking her to the Conway Area Humane Society in the morning. In the meantime, Dube posted pictures of the cat on a social media page for lost and found animals in the area.

Andrea Fortin saw the post. The cat looked a lot like Turtle, who had disappeared three years ago. Fortin went to pick her up, and the cat immediately recognized her former owner.

“Turtle started giving (Fortin) head bumps under her chin and seemed to recognize her,” police said.

Turtle is doing well and will be seeing a veterinarian for a checkup.

“I want to thank everyone for their beautiful sentiments,” Fortin said on social media. “There is always hope. Turtle is happy to be home and is doing great. She has a vet appointment scheduled and is hanging with her other fur babies.”
