Police said Neal filmed the alleged incident on a cellphone, smiling at the camera before hitting the machine with a hammer, according to WMAQ.
Chicago Police Supt. David Brown said police posted video of the ATM damage on their website and within 90 minutes, members of the community helped officers to identity him, WGN-TV reported.
“I want to thank the community for standing up and speaking out against this shameful destruction,” Brown said at a news conference Saturday.
Neal was arrested without incident, WBBM reported. He is scheduled to appear in bond court Sunday.
