Coronavirus: Dutch restaurant introduces greenhouse for diners

AMSTERDAM — A restaurant in the Netherlands is offering a unique dine-in experience in the age of the coronavirus -- tables enclosed in glass greenhouses.

The restaurant, ETEN, which is part of the Mediamatic arts center, calls the concept “Serres Séparées,” which means Separate Greenhouses in French, Reuters reported.

“We are now learning how to do the cleaning, how to do the service, how to get the empty plates out again in an elegant way so you still feel taken care of nicely,” Willem Velthoven, of Mediamatic, told Reuters.

The restaurant has offered the eating experience to friends and family of staff. Dutch restaurants are closed for dine-in until May 19. Restaurants may operate on a to-go basis.

There are 41,973 confirmed cases and 5,306 deaths from the coronavirus in the Netherlands, according to Johns Hopkins’ tracking information.
