Skylar Mack, 18, spent more than a month in jail after she and her boyfriend Vanjae “VJ” Ramgeet, 24, went to a Jet Ski competition in November, WSB-TV reported.

“It was a selfish decision,” Mack told “Good Morning America.” “There’s no reason that I can give you to grant me a second chance. I don’t expect anybody to ever forgive me, but I would like for them to at least let me be able to show them that I did learn from it.”

Mack arrived in the Cayman Islands on Nov. 27 and two days later removed the tracking device she was required to wear in order to watch Ramgeet compete in a Jet Ski event.

Mack, a pre med honor student, was originally sentenced to a fine and community service, WSB-TV reported. The sentence was later changed to four months in jail. Mack’s family had accused the government of trying to make an example out of her.

The sentence was later reduced to two months.

It’s the biggest relief. I finally slept through the night,” grandmother Jeanne Mack said. “It’s kind of hard to fall asleep when someone you love so much, you know that they’re not sleeping.”
