PERRIS, Calif. — Investigators in California are searching for answers after a baby was found dead in the trash, authorities said.

According to KMIR-TV, the body was discovered about 1 p.m. Friday at a waste collection business on Goetz Road near East Ellis Avenue in Perris. Riverside County sheriff’s deputies responded to find “a deceased infant who was discarded in the trash,” Sgt. Michael Hamilton said in a release obtained by the news station.

Although authorities did not publicly release the name of the facility where the infant was found, the Press-Enterprise reported that the only business located in that part of Goetz Road is CR&R Environmental Services.

No further information was immediately available, according to the news outlets.
