The Medford Township Police Department said on Facebook that along with Medford Fire Department and Medford Neighborhood Services, officers helped rescue a coonhound named Dylan, 8, after he was trapped in a drain pipe for about a week.

WPVI said the rescue lasted about nine hours and ended at about 1 a.m. on Sunday.

According to WPVI, Dylan was in rough shape when he was freed — he was covered in ticks, had a 104-degree fever, his paws and elbows were burnt from the pipe and he had a cut to his elbow.

Rescue crews told WPVI that if Dylan was trapped for another day, he would not have survived. Dylan’s vet also told WPVI that he had to undergo surgery for his elbow and he is doing well.

Jericho’s Wish Animal Rescue said on Facebook that Dylan is slowly improving and are grateful that residents who heard Dylan baking had called them and rescue crews to help him.

MTPD said that they expect him to make a full recovery.
