Officials with the Pigeon Forge Fire Department said they were called around 1:40 a.m. about a vehicle that had gone over an embankment. When they responded, they found a blue sedan had gone off the side of what appeared to be a raised residential driveway.

“Imagine waking up at 1:41 am and immediately having to make quick decisions that someone else’s life depends on,” fire officials said Sunday in a social media post. “That’s what happened last night.”

Firefighters spent more than an hour extricating the driver and a dog from the car, authorities said. In the end, both were safely rescued.
