Florida deputy has impromptu picnic with homeless man on sidewalk

LAKE CITY, Fla. — A widely viewed photo shows a Florida deputy having an impromptu picnic with a homeless man on a sidewalk.

A passing driver saw deputy Shane Foote, with the Columbia County Sheriff's Office, get out of his patrol car, remove a folding chair and a bag filled with Chick-Fil-A, WCJB reported.

“We were wondering if he was going to talk to the guy about being on the street but when we pulled out, he had set up the food and was sitting down with him eating,” Brownie Lyons, who took the photo as she and her husband were in a drive-thru line, told WCJB

I watched this officer get out of his patrol vehicle and set up dinner on the sidewalk tonight... Columbia County Sheriff’s Department, Lake City, Florida ❤️

Lyons felt compelled to share the moment on social media.

“I posted it as a feel good moment,” Lyons said. “So many times officers, paramedics, EMTs, and nurses like myself do a lot of good things according to our hearts to serve not for anything else. It takes very little effort to show kindness. I try very hard every day no matter how I’m treated. A kind word or gesture goes a long way.”

The moment is “a great reminder that we are all in this together,” the sheriff’s office told WCJB.
